COMMERCIAL - Start, Stop or Transfer Service

Applying for commercial service

 

To meet with one of our Customer Service Representatives in person, please make an appointment by clicking HERE or calling 256-552-1400 Opt. 4.  However, you may also start, stop or transfer service over the phone at 256-552-1400 Opt. 4 or by email csr@decaturutilities.com M-F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

 

To apply for service, please bring:​

​

  • Your Certificate of Occupancy (obtained from City of Decatur Building Dept.).

  • A valid driver's license.

  • Your Federal Tax ID number, contact name, address and phone number (if account is in corporation's name).

  • Payment for the applicable deposit amount.

  • A Letter of Credit with DU listed as a covered account and an automatic renewal clause with a 90-day notice of termination.

  • A copy of your lease or proof of ownership of building.

  • A Bank Deposit Agreement. (A joint account that maintains a balance that meets the deposit requirement and has DU listed as a covered account.)

  • A Surety Bond with a 60-day notice of termination with DU listed as a covered account.

Commercial Deposits

​

​Commercial account deposits are determined by the usage for the location. Please call Customer Service at 256-552-1400 Opt. 4 prior to your arrival to determine the exact deposit amount.

​

Deposits are refunded upon termination of the utility service and payment of the final bill.

​

Utilities will be turned on the next business day.

​

Terminating Commercial Service

​

You may contact us by phone to cancel your utility service. A 24-hour notice is required. DU will verify account information before processing your phone termination request. Cash deposits will be refunded by check after payment of your final bill.
