About Your Residential Bill
Customers are billed once a month for service used the previous month. A late fee is assessed on any amount not paid by the due date shown on the bill. Customers are given 14 days past their due date to pay the current charges without any interruption of service. Late fees apply after the due date even if service is not disconnected.

 

Decatur Utilities offers budget billing. The purpose of budget billing is to avoid extreme bills associated by weather and pay an equal amount each month. Customers with no more than one late payment per year and continuous service at the same address for 12 months are eligible. You must come to our office to sign up for the budget billing program. Customers participating in our budget billing program are required to sign up for automatic bank draft.

 

Residential service disconnected for nonpayment requires a $80 reconnection fee if payment is made at our main office during business hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.). After hours reconnection is $125 and payment can be made through our automated payment option by clicking here or calling 256-552-1400 to pay via phone.

 

If someone you know is on life support or another means of assistance which requires electricity to sustain life, please complete and return a Medical Hardship form so that we can place that residence on our Medical Priority List. In the event of an outage, power lines serving Medical Priority List members will be among the first to have power restored. A doctor must complete a portion of the form, and a new form should be re-submitted each year so that our records will be current.
