DU will issue wastewater bill credits due to dry conditions
January 18th, 2017
Decatur Utilities intends to issue bill credits to some residential wastewater customers next month due to dryer than normal weather conditions in November 2016.
General Manager Ray Hardin said the one-time extension of DU’s “Wastewater Seasonal Adjustment Program” will apply to residential customers who had high water usage during the November billing period, presumably due to lawn irrigation.
Under the program, the maximum residential wastewater bill for April through October is capped at 125% of the average of the previous November through March. This one-time extension will include customers who would have been eligible in November.
“DU management recognized that many customers had higher than normal water usage due to the abnormally dry conditions experienced throughout the Fall,” Hardin said. “We recommended extending the seasonal cap that normally expires in October and the Board agreed,” added Hardin.
The DU Board approved the extension at its January 18th meeting. The wastewater credit will be calculated based on each eligible customer’s November 2016 water usage and applied to their February 2017 bill.
